Equipment

  • 1 Large deep skillet or sauté pan (with a lid)
  • 1 Cutting board
  • 1 Sharp knife
  • 1 Measuring cups and spoons
  • 1 Wooden spoon or spatula
  • 1 Ladle (for serving)

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter plus 1 tablespoon for later
  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breast or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 small onion finely diced
  • 3 1/2 cups chicken broth low sodium preferred
  • 12 ounces egg noodles
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese optional
  • Fresh parsley chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Season the chicken with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
  • Add the chicken pieces to the pan and cook for 5–7 minutes until browned but not fully cooked. Remove and set aside.
  • Cook Aromatics:
  • In the same pan, add 1 tablespoon butter, minced garlic, and diced onion.
  • Sauté for 2–3 minutes until the onion softens and the garlic is fragrant.
  • Add Noodles and Broth:
  • Add the uncooked egg noodles to the pan.
  • Pour in the chicken broth, ensuring the noodles are mostly submerged.
  • Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Return Chicken and Add Cream:
  • Return the browned chicken to the pan once the noodles have softened.
  • Stir in the heavy cream and simmer uncovered for 5–7 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and the chicken to finish cooking.
  • Final Touches:
  • Add 1 tablespoon butter and stir to coat the noodles.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley and grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
  • Serve:
  • Serve warm with a side salad or garlic bread. Enjoy your comforting one-pan meal!

Notes

Add vegetables like broccoli, peas, or mushrooms for a more balanced meal.
For a lighter option, use half-and-half instead of heavy cream.
Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat with a splash of cream or broth.
